Due to a pre-season knee injury, Kovacic has not yet appeared for Chelsea in any of their first three Premier League games this year.

Tuchel waited until the Croatian's knee showed no reaction before putting him at danger. This week, Kovacic returned to practice, and he gave a good update after doing so.
The 28-year-old acknowledged: "Although returning has been challenging, the atmosphere here is lovely, and I can't wait to join the boys on the field once more. I am prepared for what lies ahead.

"I detest it (being ruled out through injury). It was challenging, but on the plus side, the injury gave me motivation to work harder in the gym.

I put in some extra effort, and I feel ready to go now.
But it was still unclear if he would be available to face Leicester City. Tuchel has since confirmed that the midfielder is healthy and available to play.

Kovacic will only play a brief cameo in Kante's absence, according to Chelsea's head coach, who also stated that Kovacic is "back in the group and ready to play maybe 20 minutes."

"We mourn him as a person, as well as his knowledge and abilities. It has been about 20 minutes so far.

It was his first training week without a reaction in the knee, so we cannot move too quickly or we risk derailing our own objectives for him.

“Since many years he felt very strong, getting enough rest and build-up to be the player he can be for us. We started with one game a week so the hopes were high that he can play consistently for us. If we build another system, I don’t know.

“We have trust in our players. It will maybe be the same system. We played many games, unfortunately, without him in the same structure. It will be slightly different because every player is a bit different. That is the challenge to adapt to this, use different players differently. To change completely because N’Golo is not there, I don’t think so.”guys
