Chelsea contemplate move for 25-year-old PL ace on arch-rival’s radar

Chelsea are considering making a move for Everton striker Richarlison, who is also a prime target for arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Sky Sports , the Blues are now giving serious thought to converting their interest in Richarlison to intent. The Everton striker is viewed as a potential replacement for Inter Milan-bound Romelu Lukaku, but getting a deal over the line won’t be straightforward.

After having their initial offer for the England international rejected, Chelsea appears to be concentrating all of their efforts on concluding a deal to acquire Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

Richarlison has made 152 appearances for Everton since joining from Watford in the summer of 2018. He has scored 53 goals and assisted on 14 others. He scored key crucial goals at the end of the season for the Toffees, notably the game-winning goal against Chelsea at Goodison Park, which helped them avoid relegation the previous season.

Having spent four years now in Merseyside, the Toffees are now resigned to the idea of losing their talisman who seeks a new challenge and a chance to compete for silverware regularly.

Chelsea’s “striker curse” is now well-documented and that somehow needs to be fixed. The traditional No. 9 is a role that’s slowly fading, and that is quite apparent when you think of all the top strikers now in the world.

Think about the top 10 forwards in the world. Now see for yourself, how many are actually an out-and-out No.9? Not many, you will find.

Think about Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane – one of the best-attacking trios of all time, but who is the No.9? Well, no one.

It is very likely that Chelsea won’t try desperately to get a player in the Lukaku mould to replace the Belgian. Rather, an attacking trio who complement each other well seems like the way to go.

Richarlison, should a deal be offered to him, is very likely to prefer the Blues over Spurs due to Chelsea’s ability to challenge for silverware every season.

Everything depends on how Chelsea progress in their negotiations elsewhere, and we should have a clearer picture in the coming days.
