Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt appears to have elevated to the top of the priority list for new centre-backs this summer, with the Blues likely to sign two.
It appears that they might be offering Timo Werner in the deal to try and convince Juventus to sell him.
Whether this works or not is another thing, but according to Italian reporter Daniele Longo, Chelsea are convinced that they can close the deal, and Juventus have given the greenlight to taking Werner.
He says that the negotiations continue between the two clubs and they are still some distance apart as it stands. But there is optimism on Chelsea’s side it appears, that the deal can get done.
