Arsenal target Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy to strengthen their squad, with Real Madrid reportedly lowering his price to £17.5 million.

In order to strengthen their roster in time for the upcoming Premier League season, Arsenal is reportedly interested in Ferland Mendy of Real Madrid.

The Daily Mirror reports that this action comes as Real Madrid reduces Mendy's asking price to £17.5 million, giving Arsenal a fantastic opportunity to sign a prodigious prospect.

Talented French international Mendy has had difficulty making an impact at Madrid as his regular outings have been hampered by injury and subpar play.

Despite these disappointments, it is evident that he can increase Arsenal's roster depth.

Interestingly, Mendy’s move to the Premier League was initially thought to be directed towards Tottenham, as suggested by his agent. However, Tottenham are unlikely to be in Europe at all next season, never mind the Champions League, making Arsenal a more attractive destination for the Frenchman.

It’s worth noting that the Gunners’ interest in Mendy isn’t new. Back in November 2018, following a stellar performance against Manchester City, Arsenal fans had already been vocal about their desire to see the Frenchman don the famous red and white.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s head coach, is known for his strategic approach to recruitment, emphasising squad depth and versatility. The potential addition of Ferland Mendy aligns with this philosophy. A left-back by trade, Mendy’s versatility and two-footedness would provide Arteta with a plethora of options in defence and midfield.

With the summer transfer window looming, Arsenal’s pursuit of Ferland Mendy could potentially strengthen the Gunners’ bid for Premier League glorynext season. Arsenal fans will undoubtedly be keen to see how this story unfolds in the coming weeks.
