Wesley Fofana suffers knee injury in Chelsea vs Brentford friendly

Prior to the start of the Premier League, Wesley Fofana, a French defender, had to be replaced during Chelsea's friendly match against Brentford. According to football.london, the altercation took place behind closed doors, and the former Leicester star sustained a knee injury.

Tuesday's game took place as Fofana, along with teammates like Reece James, tried to complete his recovery after missing time for the Blues due to a knee injury sustained against AC Milan in October. In the match, Chelsea prevailed 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Kai Havertz across three 45-minute halves.

Fofana's knee injury, though, comes as a setback before his return to play. The issue's seriousness is not yet known to be discovered, though there is concern within the Blues camp.

The 22-year-old headed to Dubai in November to aid his rehabilitation and also joined Chelsea's squad in Abu Dhabi in recent weeks, though did not feature in Chelsea's friendly against Aston Villa. Fofana had been looking forward to returning to action and believed he would be ready for Bournemouth in Chelsea's first game back.

He said: "Bournemouth is a very important game as it is the season's restart, it's important for the club. The team is ready to push harder in the second part of the season. I am feeling good and I am ready for action."
