Right-back Reece James has resumed light team training as Chelsea take off for a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.
James was in a battle against time to demonstrate his fitness after suffering a knee injury just before the World Cup, but he finally fell short and England boss Gareth Southgate decided to leave the 22-year-old at home.
The right-back has joined the team in Abu Dhabi to continue his recovery after continuing to train at Chelsea's Cobham facility.
James participated in a brief training session, according to Chelsea, that included jogging, stretching, and a number of games "intended to keep the spirits high and get the legs moving after the seven-hour flight from England."
James believes he will come back. to competitive action when the Premier League resumes, with Chelsea set to take on Bournemouth on Tuesday 27 December.
Also joining James out in Abu Dhabi were fellow stricken stars Wesley Fofana and N'Golo Kante, who are further behind in their quests to return from injury.
Carney Chukwuemeka is also back in training but Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has travelled with the squad, was not involved on Monday as he recovers from a knock.
