We have now reached the knockout stages of the World Cup and that’s when the big tests really start to happen.
Yesterday, the Netherlands beat USA 3-1 to knock them out of the competition, and as usual, there was some keen Chelsea interest in a few players on show.
Christian Pulisic was obviously playing for the USA but was unable to help them get through. But in terms of other Chelsea interest, there was a couple of potential targets and previously linked players on show, including Denzel Dumfries of Netherlands.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with him in recent months and considered a move in the summer. They’ve been looking at the Inter Milan right back as potential competition for Reece James.
Dumfries had a very good game yesterday, and he has also admitted that he finds Chelsea’s interest a compliment, in his words after the game, reported by The Athletic.
“Of course it’s a compliment,” Dumfries said.
“But when you put the Nerazzurri shirt on that is also a big compliment.
“I’m focused on the national team and I play for a very, very beautiful club in Italy. I’m very proud that I can play for Inter so I am focused on nothing else but the national team and Inter.”
