Why Sterling didn’t play vs Newcastle United

Raheem Sterling, a forward for the club, was left out of the Chelsea team that played Newcastle on Saturday, according to manager Graham Potter.

It was expected that Sterling, who was chosen to England's 26-man World Cup team on Thursday, will start the match against Newcastle at St. James' Park.

Sterling, though, surprised many by not even being in the Chelsea team against the Magpies.

Prior to the game's start, Potter revealed to the media that Sterling had become ill on Friday and was therefore absent from the team to play Newcastle.

He only became ill yesterday. A brief update on Sterling was provided by Potter. "A little sickness," she said.

Raheem has been experiencing a few migraines, but nothing too bad , and he’s unable to travel.”

Chelsea went on to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United who are not seated in the top four of the league table.
