Thomas Tuchel ready to reignite £77m Reece James backup transfer mission as PSG stance clear

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly held a long-standing interest in PSG defender Achraf Hakimi, though an offer is yet to have been tabled.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel appears to have left the door open to signing Achraf Hakimi. Last summer, the 23-year-old was extensively linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but no deal was reached.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues made an official proposal of £56.1 million for the Moroccan, but he instead signed a contract with Paris Saint-Germain. This season, Hakimi played 32 times for the French champions in Ligue 1, contributing directly to ten goals from right-back.

Mauricio Pochettino was able to maintain the greatest defensive record in the league, leading the team to another title. Hakimi's efforts, however, were not enough to get PSG into the Champions League's knockout stages.

Despite this, he is thought to have kept courting Chelsea's attention, with a move to west London on the cards. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel is a "huge fan" of Hakimi, and the defender has always been high on the club's transfer want list.

According to writer Daniel Riolo on the 'After Foot show' on French radio RMC, Hakimi decided to quit Les Parc des Princes in March, less than a year after joining. PSG have not received any offers for the £77m-rated full-back, according to Romano's report, with the Blues boss likely prioritizing recruiting in other parts of the pitch following the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
