Paul Scholes: Man Utd legend's claim about Chelsea comes back to haunt him

Manchester United's defence were made to look Sunday League level at best in their 5-0 defeat versus Liverpool.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw started in defence for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side and all four dropped atrocious performances.

Maguire and Shaw's seemingly never-ending hangover from Euro 2020 is a huge concern for United, while Lindelof proved once again that he's simply not good enough for United.

Raphael Varane's return from injury cannot come soon enough, but the Red Devils shouldn't be so reliant on a player who was only signed in the summer.

If United cannot fix their defensive issues, the 2021/22 season could be a pretty disastrous one for the club.

So far in Premier League action, Solskjaer's side have let in a whopping 15 goals, which is five times the amount conceded by league leaders Chelsea.

That's a shocking comparison from a United perspective, one that makes Paul Scholes look even more foolish.

Around a week or so ago, the player-turned-pundit discussed various Premier League-related topics on an episode of The Overlap with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

And in an interaction with Lewis Gebreselassie from Chelsea Fan TV, Scholes claimed that Chelsea had a worse defence than United.

After Lewis stated the he believes Chelsea have three of the best centre-backs around in Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Scholes took aim at the Blues' back-line.

“Really?” he replied. “Well, Liverpool have got the best centre-backs, [Manchester] City have got two great ones, I think United have got two really good ones.
