Here we go again.
Earlier this week I wrote a piece regarding Christian Pulisic's return to first-team training after his ankle injury kept him out of nine Chelsea games so far this season. It also looked at how the American could link up with Romelu Lukaku in the coming weeks being the only attacking player not to feature alongside the Belgian.
But all of those hopes have been quickly torpedoed by Pulisic's old foe – injuries. There was confusion on Monday when training pictures were released without the 21-year-old present, whilst both recently sidelined pair of N'Golo Kante and Reece James were back in action.
There have been comparisons made between Pulisic and Eden Hazard, given positionally the American came in after the Belgian's departure to Real Madrid, placing the "replacement" tag on his shoulders. During the first season, he showed signs he could become a major attacking threat with some stunning performances and a number of big goals which helped Chelsea secure Champions League qualification under Frank Lampard.
Since then it has been a frustrating series of setbacks and there are now major doubts over Pulisic being able to ever reach his high potential at Stamford Bridge with the intense demands to succeed. Christian Pulisic was ruled out of the clash with Brentford on Saturday by Thomas Tuchel.
