Thiago Silva is 'set to miss' Chelsea's second-leg against Borussia Dortmund

Injury may prevent Thiago Silva from playing in Chelsea's critical Champions League second-leg matchup against Borussia Dortmund.

The 38-year-old was substituted by Wesley Fofana after being forced off during the first half of the London derby match against Tottenham.

The Times reports that the Brazilian defender will 'be out for at least a week' as Chelsea prepares for a pivotal period of their season.

The news will be disappointing to everyone associated with the team because the seasoned defender has constantly been a bright spot during Chelsea's terrible run of form.

Silva will consequently be a major loss in the crucial round of 16 second leg.

Chelsea lost the first-leg 1-0 thanks to an incredible solo effort from Germany youngster Karim Adeyemi.

The 21-year-old picked the ball up deep inside his own-half and surged towards the Chelsea goal with Enzo Fernandez the only Blues player back.

Adeyemi breezed past Fernandez with ease before rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal and finishing tidily.

It means Chelsea have a lot of work to do in the second-leg to overturn the result and the absence of Silva could prove costly.

Chelsea will also have to bounce back from their poor run of form in the Premier League - most recently the uninspiring loss against Spurs.
