Enzo Fernandez: Chelsea make British record transfer bid

According to numerous sources, Chelsea is prepared to pay top dollar to get Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Blues are prepared to make a British transfer record deal for the World Cup champion.

The Blues are reportedly "optimistic" that they will finally get the breakthrough they desire for the 21-year-old talent and have made a bid of €120 million (£105 million) to capture the Argentina international star, according to The Telegraph.

Although that figure matches Fernandez’s release clause, that will only be triggered if Chelsea are willing to pay that amount in a lump sum up front – something they have strongly resisted until this point.

Indeed, the report suggests that Chelsea are looking to make one large payment followed by five smaller instalments for the player.

Benfica president Rui Costa has consistently stated that only the release clause will see Enzo leave Benfica this month, yet the Blues are confident that the size of the bid plus the desire of the player to make a January transfer will help them to finally get the deal completed after a month of dogged pursuit.
