Chelsea announcement made – Boss delighted after transfer deal OFFICIALLY confirmed

Chelsea have announced that talented stopper Ethan Wady has agreed a contract extension with the club – and will be on loan at Woking for next season

Wady, 20, is a product of the Chelsea academy, joining the Blues during the 2017/18 season after relocating from North Carolina, USA, where he played club football at North Carolina FC.

He signed a scholarship deal ahead of the 2018/19 season and made his debut for the Chelsea youth sides away to Manchester United in December 2018. Ethan signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in the summer of 2020.

Wady has spent time on loan at Tooting & Mitcham United, Dartford and Hendon in the previous three seasons, gaining senior football ahead of his move to Woking – and Chelsea announced that he has just signed a contract extension with the club before heading out on loan

And after seeing the deal get done – Woking have admitted their delight at the deal: “Ethan is a very ambitious young man,” said Manager Darren Sarll. “The one thing you identify with him straight away, as you look at his pathway, is how he has always chosen to take the uncomfortable route.

“There is never a comfort zone you can identify with this young player.

“He has always chosen to go out and play in environments that are a lot different to his academy background, so that must be admired straight away.

“There is also a fierce ambition in him to really compete with Craig Ross – and like all positions at this football club – from day one everyone is level and must push to earn the right to play in games.

“My environments are always based on meritocracy, and Ethan will be under the same conditions as everyone else.

“I hope it’s a positive experience for him, there are a lot of ups and downs for young players – especially goalkeepers – but my conversations with him have been very, very good,” Sarll added.
