While Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan from Chelsea, wasted numerous scoring opportunities against Belgium, Gvardiol helped Croatia advance to the World Cup round of 16. After the 0-0 draw with Belgium, the 20-year-old center-back discussed the prospect of joining Real Madrid in the future.
The Croatian defender remarked, "Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, so who knows," when speaking to Relevo. I might be able to play there one day.
Gvardiol said, "I would like to, sure," when asked if he would like to play for Madrid in the future. There is no need for me to learn anything new about Real Madrid because I already know everything. I am aware that it is the largest club on earth, and how important it is to be linked to such a team.
Juventus target Edouard Mendy January transfer
Chelsea are said to have already offered Mendy to London rivals Tottenham as they look to sell him on in the January transfer window, with Potter keen on signing a replacement to start ahead of Kepa. The Senegalese goalkeeper cost Chelsea £22million when he arrived back in 2019 and has now been linked with a shock move to Juventus, as per TuttoJuve.
According to CIES Football Observatory, Mendy is currently worth €40million (£34million) due to his contract not expiring until 2025. Chelsea may be willing to accept a fee closer to what they paid for the 30-year-old three years ago, however, as they look to move him on and free up some transfer and wage budget.
Chelsea wary of Jude Bellingham transfer blow
Chelsea will hope that they can convince Jude Bellingham to complete a transfer to Stamford Bridge next summer.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of Bellingham's closest friends in the England camp, with the Dortmund star having expressed his admiration for his idol Reds' legend Steven Gerrard, along with praising Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in a recent interview.
The 24-year-old Liverpool star has since addressed speculation over whether he is trying to convince Bellingham to move to Anfield in an interview with BBC 5 Live Sport after he posted a picture with the 19-year-old on Instagram. Alexander-Arnold said: "I'm just going out with a mate, aren't I!
"Everyone saying 'agent Trent', but no, a few of us went out yesterday after being given the day off. We [him and Bellingham] just decided to get a picture together.
"World Cups are a once in a lifetime, or at least a couple of times in a lifetime, not many people can say they've been to them. It's just good to get some pictures on board and stuff like that so that's what we tried to do."
