Glen Johnson, a former defender for Chelsea and Liverpool, has said that he would want to see PSV Eindhoven and Bayern Munich strikers Cody Gakpo and Jamal Musiala play in the Premier League shortly after both players impressed for their clubs and in the World Cup.
Gakpo, 23, will play as the Netherlands take on the USA in the opening round of 16 match. He scored in each of the team's three group games under Louis van Gaal.
Despite interest from Arsenal, Southampton and Leeds were unable to sign the Dutchman before the summer transfer window closed. Currently, Manchester United appear to be the front-runners to get the winger.
Johnson, however, stated to FairBettingSites suggested that Chelsea should join the race for Gakpo, saying: "Cody Gakpo has really caught my eye at the World Cup. It's not easy to score at this level, also the way he reads the game, the way he plays and moves; he looks the real deal.
"In terms of personnel, Chelsea need Gakpo more than Liverpool. Chelsea have always had fantastic wingers, but they never scored goals, if you don't get in those positions to score goals there's not much point in you being in the team. Gakpo looks like he could do it in the Premier League, he looks like he would burst onto the scene like Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz has for Liverpool."
As for Musiala, the 19-year-old's time in Qatar is over after Germany were surprisingly eliminated from the World Cup at the group stage for the second tournament in a row, but the Bayern starlet's stock will continue to rise with his impressive displays.
Having played in Chelsea's youth sides, as well as in England's, Johnson added that he would like to see the Germany winger back in England playing in the Premier League, stating: "I'd like to see Jamal Musiala in a Liverpool or back in a Chelsea shirt, especially with the way he's playing at the moment.
"Most top teams would bite their arm off for him. Musiala was getting involved in most of Germany's attacks before they were knocked out. He looks like he would really suit the Premier League.
"I wish he was still English, but he's probably the last person we need because of the talent we have in his position already. Musiala would get into the England team, he would certainly go toe-to-toe with all the other midfielders in the team. I’d definitely say he’s good enough to start for England."
