The fact that Lewis Hall, a young player for Chelsea, started ahead of Marc Cucurella during Saturday's loss to Newcastle United, according to ESPN commentator Craig Burley, is concerning for the Blues.
Numerous well-known players, like Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, were unexpectedly left from Potter's roster for the games at St. James' Park.
The manager's selection of 18-year-old Hall over Cucurella for the left wing-back position, though, is the most intriguing choice.
Hall, who performed admirably in the midweek loss to Manchester City, undoubtedly deserved his chance after such an impressive showing, but Burley claims that it also raised the issue of whether Potter is still confident in Cucurella.
"Among other things, one of the worries would be: if I spent £60million on a fullback, and I’m playing young Lewis Hall, who played against Manchester City in the week, and that player was from the club I managed before, and I know very well, that’s a very worrying sign,” the former Blues midfielder told ESPN FC.
