Jorginho, a playmaker for Chelsea, is reportedly seeking at least £150,000 per week in order to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The long-term future of the Italy international midfielder is still uncertain as he is currently scheduled to become a free agent at the conclusion of the current season.
The West London powerhouses and Jorginho are negotiating a new contract because the 30-year-old is still bound by the terms of the agreement he made when he arrived in 2018.
Although it is thought that the talks are still in their early stages, the midfielder's agent Joao Santos has stated that their top aim is to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Blues.
Our due date is in June. Chelsea is our top priority, and we are moving towards it. Another priority for Jorginho is to do well with the national team,” Santos told Tuttomercatoweb
La Liga giants, Barcelona are reported to have taken an interest in Jorginho, and while Santos has suggested that he might have discussed the 30-year-old with other teams, he has insisted that travelling to various parts of the world is simply his job.
“I work in football, I have been to Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, but also in other parts such as Lyon. I’m Jorginho’s agent, I may have talked about him but also about others,” Santos added.
Now, a report from the Evening Standard suggests that the Blues and Jorginho have not been able to find common ground in talks yet, and the midfielder’s pay packet is the roadblock.
The report suggests that the Blues want to keep Jorginho on a wage similar to his current £120,000 per week deal, however, the Italian has asked for more.
Jorginho supposedly wants to earn as much as £150,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, which would take him to level with club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who extended his Chelsea deal earlier this year.
