In order to acquire RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku in time for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this November, Chelsea is still optimistic that a deal can be reached. Following a successful 2021/22 season, France international is one of the Bundesliga's most sought-after strikers.
Christopher led the Bundesliga heavyweights in scoring with 35 goals and 20 assists in 52 games in all competitions. With 12 goals and one assist in 18 games, Nkunku has carried over his strong play from last season. The 24-year-old attacker is demonstrating that he is more than just a one-season marvel, it is fair to say.
The French forward, who can play in a variety of attacking and midfield positions, adds a lot of vitality to both club and nation. In London giants currently lack a player who provides the same cutting-edge, and one can see why Chelsea are keen on landing the French attacker.
The Blues co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to get the transfer business rolling and appears intent on making a splash in the market. The former PSG attacker is a major star on his radar and had already completed a medical last summer ahead of a potential move to Chelsea in 2023.
The Frenchman has a rather reasonable £58m release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2023. However, the amount has to be paid upfront, and it is something that the Blues are keen to avoid. While the Blues are set to pay a bigger amount, they are keen to structure the deal over many payments.
