Thomas Tuchel is on the verge of finally landing Jules Kounde.

According to reports, Chelsea is about to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla. The Frenchman would become their third signing of the summer if the deal were to go through. According to Simon Phillips, a writer for Chelsea, the Blues and the La Liga club are almost at an agreement for £51.1 million. Barcelona has not made an offer for the defender despite earlier reports to the contrary.

Raheem Sterling from Manchester City was the first acquisition made by the west London team after their summer shopping spree. Their second acquisition, Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, cost the Blues over €40 million in transfer fees.

Since the commencement of the Todd Boehly period, Kounde may now become their third addition. It is no secret that Chelsea has a long-term interest in the center back; in fact, Frank Lampard came quite close to signing him last summer. The Sevilla center-back, though, remained at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium for the subsequent season. He later appeared in 44 games for Julen Lopetegui's team in all competitions, aiding them in finishing fourth in the league and earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League. Thomas Tuchel knew that Koulibaly's addition would never be adequate given the necessity to revamp the team's defense this summer. This summer, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger both left for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.
The German manager trusted the pair to protect his backline, so their departure would be felt keenly. Thiago Silva is already 37 years old and in the final year of his contract, which makes the situation worse.
