Nathan Ake and Matthijs de Ligt during a training session of the Netherlands

Raheem Sterling's departure might be the beginning of the rebirth Thomas Tuchel hoped to see at Chelsea this summer.

Ahead of Chelsea's preseason tour of the United States, Raheem Sterling is expected to become Thomas Tuchel's first summertime acquisition. The winger will earn more than the £ 300,00 per week he received at Manchester City thanks to personal provisions of the contract that the England international has agreed to.

As the Blues try to complete the transfer in time for Sterling to join them during their Los Angeles training camp before friendlies against Club America, Charlotte, and Arsenal, the clubs are reportedly close to reaching an agreement on a deal in the neighborhood of £45 million with up to £10 million in add-ons.

Having more fresh signings for the entire preseason and less than a month till the Premier League resumes, following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, certainly wouldn't have gone amiss. With days until Tuchel and co find themselves across the Atlantic, that may not be possible but there remain irons in the fire.
The Blues' priorities heading into the pre-season remain getting Sterling over the line and signing a defender. Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake and Jules Kounde have all been on the shortlist.
