Liverpool were reportedly keen to bring Raheem Sterling back to Anfield

Before Raheem Sterling decided to join Chelsea, LIVERPOOL allegedly considered a contentious effort to lure him back to the club.

The 27-year-old England player, who will join the Blues for £45 million from Manchester City, is about to become Thomas Tuchel's first summer addition.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were all interested in securing the forward.

And the The Mirror claims that Sterling’s old club Liverpool were also in the hunt.

Reds supporters were furious when the star left Anfield for City back in 2015 after he forced through a £50m exit.

He has always endured a hot reception from the Kop since as the rivalry between the two clubs intensified over recent years.

Sterling has not enjoyed the best of luck against his former employers, scoring just three goals against them and being involved in only five victories in 18 outings versus them.

He joined Liverpool from QPR aged 14 and burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old as part of the impressive attack that included Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

In total he scored 23 goals and produced 25 assists in 129 matches for them before switching to the Etihad.

Speaking to Sky Sports in 2020, he insists he was “disappointed” with how he left the Reds but was adamant that he had no regrets.
