Chelsea announcement made – talented defender has completed early summer move

English League Two side Barrow have announced the loan signing of Northern Ireland defender Sam McClelland from Chelsea – it has been revealed

McClelland was in Ian Baraclough’s senior squad for the games against Malta and Ukraine, making his debut against the Ukrainians in 2021.

He originally joined Chelsea in 2008, and later that year, after making an impression on the Blues coaching staff with several outstanding performances, he swiftly signed his first significant contract with the club.

This is McClelland's first loan, and it comes just after Chelsea exercised an option in his contract that allowed for a one-year extension; the clause was set to expire at the end of the month.

Sam McClelland will play at Barrow this next season, the first loan move of his Chelsea career, according to a statement on the club website from Chelsea.

Barrow boss Pete Wild said on the new addition “Sam comes highly recommended from both club and country and is at the right stage of his career to experience men’s football.

” We are excited to have him as part of the group and help continue his development as a footballer.”
