5 best paid strikers in the Premier League right now

Darwin Nunez, a youthful and talented striker, was recently acquired by Liverpool for a club-record £85 million (Source: Sky Sports). The Uruguayan had an outstanding season with Benfica last year, scoring 34 goals in all competitions. This will undoubtedly help the Reds in their quest for the league championship in 2022–23. Nunez's acquisition merely raises the caliber of the group of excellent strikers who already play in England's highest division of football.

English clubs are known to be commercially strong and hence can provide handsome wages to their players. In fact, it is one of the most tempting reasons for any player to join the Premier League.

A good number of strikers in the league right now are earning eye-catching wages because of their amazing goal-scoring abilities. On that note, let's take a look at some of the most well-paid strikers in the Premier League this season.

#5 Anthony Martial (Manchester United)

When Anthony Martial joined Manchester United in the 2015–16 campaign from AS Monaco, there were high hopes. Even United added a Ballon d'Or clause to his contract as a result of his stellar play at Monaco. Martial started off on a good note but eventually struggled with consistency. His best period occurred in the 2019–20 season when playing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team, when he scored 17 goals. Since the Norwegian manager was fired, things have only gotten worse for the Frenchman.

The 26-year-old forward has run out of favor at Manchester United due to his poor form, especially after his earning £250,000 per week. Martial currently earns more than Harry Kane (£200,000 per week).

#4 Timo Werner (Chelsea)

Timo Werner of Chelsea is another forward who appears to have had difficulty in the Premier League. The Blues acquired the German striker from RB Leipzig for the 2020–21 campaign. With 78 goals in 127 league games for Leipzig, Werner had a stellar record in the Bundesliga. At Chelsea, he was supposed to make the most of his incredible goal-scoring skills, but so far, things haven't gone well for him. The 26-year-old has struggled with his composure in front of goal and has been guilty of missing some rather simple opportunities. Werner, who presently makes £272,000 a week and has made 44 starts for Chelsea, has so far scored 10 goals.

#3 Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)

Romelu Lukaku has a lot of experience under his belt after having played for several Premier League teams throughout his career. After winning the Scudetto with Inter Milan in the previous summer, the Belgian striker joined Chelsea for a second time. Since then, Lukaku's situation hasn't been ideal as he has experienced consistency issues and inconsistent play. He only managed to score eight times in 26 league games last season.

The 29-year-old has been guilty of not taking his chances, which even saw him not start regularly under Thomas Tuchel's management. Lukaku currently earns £325,000 per week and is likely to be loaned out to Inter Milan for the upcoming season.

#2 Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

In the past ten years, Manchester City has brought in a number of players, but few few have been as effective in front of goal as Erling Haaland. This summer, City acquired the Norwegian striker after the club and Borussia Dortmund completed a $51 million deal (Source: Sky Sports). One of the most exciting prospects in football right now is undoubtedly Haaland. The Norwegian is a lethal force in attack thanks to his height, muscular frame and accurate finishing.

The 21-year-old scored 22 Bundesliga goals for Dortmund despite starting just 21 games. It comes as no surprise to see Haaland earning £375,000 per week, given his goal-scoring abilities and demand.

#1 Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

Many Manchester United supporters yearned for Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford after his successful first stint there under Sir Alex Ferguson's leadership. Last year, when the Portuguese joined the team from Juventus, their wish was granted. Ronaldo was one of the few bright spots for United last season, despite their disappointing 2021–22 season. The Portuguese striker finished the season with 18 goals, which is third-most in the Premier League.

It is commendable how Ronaldo keeps being so fit and consistent even at the age of 37. Given his accolades and reputation for being one of the world's best players, the Portuguese captain rightfully earns £510,000 per week.
