Thomas Tuchel says Callum Hudson-Odoi’s ‘best position’ is on Chelsea’s left wing

Thomas Tuchel believes Callum Hudson-Odoi’s best position is on the left side of Chelsea's attack following his side’s win over Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Champions League holders ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against the Swedish side at Stamford Bridge with two penalties from Jorginho, while Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz also found the net.

Hudson-Odoi, meanwhile, was brought on in the first half following an injury to Timo Werner and delivered an impressive performance on the left flank.

The 20-year-old has been given limited playing time this season with just two appearances in the Premier League and has also been played out of position as a right wing-back by Tuchel.

But the Chelsea manager acknowledged after Hudson-Odoi’s display against Malmo that the winger performs better in a more advanced role on the opposite flank.

‘This is his best position, I know,’ Tuchel told beIN Sports.

‘Sometimes he needs to help as a right wing-back, so he needs to take it for the team.

‘But we know the half left position up front is his best position.’

Chelsea were also dealt a blow in their win over Malmo as both Werner and Romelu Lukaku suffered injuries. However, Hudson-Odoi may now be given a chance to start in Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Norwich City this Saturday.

‘Yes, we are sad, of course,’ said Tuchel.

‘We are never happy because we like to have the full squad and the two are dangerous and decisive players for us up front.

‘But these things happen, so now we need to try to find solutions without them. But overall we are very happy with the performance and the win.’
