Edouard Mendy proves Rio Ferdinand right with brilliant moment Chelsea fans will love vs Norwich

Chelsea may have won 7-0 on Saturday but that did not stop Edouard Mendy from impressing in goal.

As far as matches go, Edouard Mendy will certainly have busier ones for Chelsea.

He was the hero as the Blues edged past Brentford last weekend, making a string of excellent saves to maintain the 1-0 lead, but Norwich did not pose a similar threat.

Mason Mount scored a brilliant hat-trick while Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi were also on target at Stamford Bridge as Thomas Tuchel's side won 7-0. A day-off for Mendy, near enough.

The Senegal star was forced into just one save at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but it was one he thoroughly enjoyed, pulling out a celebration similar to those from the goalscorers at the other end.

Rashica got the crucial first touch but Mendy jockeyed the attacker impressively, forcing him wide before sliding in to block his shot.

It is a clear demonstration of the incredible pride he takes in keeping the opposition out, even when his side boast a 5-0 lead at the time, and will only endear him to his adoring fans even more.

There was plenty of outrage among the Chelsea fans when the shortlist for the 2021 Ballon d'Or was announced and Mendy's name was nowhere to be seen.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand made the point earlier in the week, insisting that the Chelsea shot-stopper is underrated.
