In a recent article, renowned journalist David Ornstein stated that Chelsea's leadership intended to evaluate Graham Potter based on years rather than months or games. Though they anticipate growth, they are giving him plenty of time. Long-term and safe employment is perceived.
For Chelsea, this has been a challenging year. Starting with Todd Boehly and his group assuming control after Roman Abramovich stepped down, changing the coaching staff, and the exciting transfer windows. By appointing former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Potter and his staff, the owners have made a significant investment in the team. Over the course of the last two transfer windows, the club has also signed an astounding total of 18 players. Even after all of this, CFC remains stuck in the middle of the table and is out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup already.
These results have caused an understandable unrest amongst the Chelsea faithful who are used to the revolving door strategy used by Mr. Abramovich. These are the same fans who considered Potter a hot favorite back when Thomas Tuchel was sacked and would pay any sum to have the English manager at the club. The Boehly-Clearlake ownership did sack Tuchel ruthlessly but they’ve got history with building a long term as they did with their baseball team, Los Angeles Dodgers, whose Head coach Dave Roberts has been leading the team for almost 10 years.
