Following Chelsea's substitute against Borussia Dortmund, Graham Potter delivers an update on Ben Chilwell.

Graham Potter has confirmed that Ben Chilwell will need to be checked on after he was substituted in Chelsea's defeat to Borussia Dortmund. The full back was replaced by Marc Cucurella in the 70th minute and appeared to be limping before he took a place on the bench.

Chilwell was making his first start since Chelsea's last Champions League match when he picked up a hamstring injury against Dinamo Zagreb in November. The former Leicester star has since made two substitute appearances against Fulham and West Ham before displacing Cucurella from his role on the left on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old could be seen stretching out his right leg before he was substituted and also seemed to have a conversation with the physios in the dugout after he was replaced. However, Potter looked to allay some fears by revealing that a kick during Chilwell's time on the pitch was the reason behind the limp.

The Chelsea boss noted that the plan was always to rest his charge come the later stages of the game.

Potter said: “About five minutes before he came off, he had a run down the side and had a kick on his ankle. I haven’t checked it over but I think it’s more a kick than anything else and probably a little bit of fatigue. That was his first start for some time so the idea before the game was to take him off at 60/70 minutes max. So that was the plan.”
