Thiago Silva's new contract with Chelsea has been officially announced by the club.
The Brazilian was free to negotiate a free transfer to foreign teams in the summer because his contract was slated to expire at the end of the current campaign.
However, the Blues announced on Friday night that Silva had extended his deal by a further 12 months, keeping him committed to the team through 2024.
In a statement, Silva said: "Sincerely, I'm overjoyed to continue working with the Blues.
"My initial contract with this company was only for a year. The fourth has already passed. Really, signing and staying at is a very important event for me because I could never have envisioned that.
In a joint statement, co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: "We're delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.
"He’s a world-class talent, as he’s proven over many years for club and country, and his experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward.

The Brazilian's deal was set to expire at the end of the season, and he was eligible to speak to foreign clubs about a free transfer in the summer.
But the Blues confirmed on Friday night that Silva has extended his contract by another 12 months, tying him to the club until 2024.
Silva said in a statement: "I am honestly so happy to continue my career with the Blues.
"When I signed my first contract here, it was to just do one year. Now it is already the fourth! I could not have imagined that, but really it is a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea."
