Denzel Dumfries addresses Chelsea transfer links as Matthijs De Ligt opens up on failed £70m bid

This season, Dumfries has excelled for both club and country. In his most recent World Cup performance, he contributed two assists and a goal to help the Netherlands advance to the quarterfinals. Prior to springing up at the back post in the second half to add a third goal in the 81st minute after Haji Wright scored for the USA, Dumfries provided assists on Memphis Depay's first goal and Daley Blind's goal in the first half.

"Of course it's a tremendous compliment to be connected with Chelsea, but playing for Inter it's big compliment too," Dumfries remarked following his Man of the Match performance. Chelsea's January transfer? I have only the national team and Inter in mind.

Matthijs de Ligt speaks out on  Chelsea summer transfer

Matthijs de Ligt has denied that he came close to signing for Chelsea in the summer, before joining Bayern Munich, as per the Evening Standard.

Juventus were approached by the Blues but the Dutch defender ended up leaving for Germany in a £68million deal, with De Ligt affirming that he never held talks with Chelsea despite their enquiry.

“Yes, but that wasn’t to do with me,” De Ligt said. “I had my sights on Bayern.

“It wasn’t close with me but maybe [it was between] the clubs. Honestly, I didn’t speak to them this summer. There were a lot of rumours that didn’t come from me.”

He continued: “[Bayern] is amazing. I am having a nice time there. It feels like home after many months. I think the way I played with Bayern gave me the opportunity to play the first game [of the World Cup] so I feel made a good decision and I am really happy there.”
