Declan Rice has been identified by Chelsea as their top transfer target for 2023. The 23-year-old midfielder was on the books of the London juggernauts as a kid before being released by the academy, and they have a long-term interest in him. Potter recently took over for Tuchel in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, but he is also a fan.
The Blues' recruitment efforts will center on getting Declan away from West Ham next summer. Rice, who was originally rated at £150 million by Irons coach David Moyes, won't be cheap. Although the Englishman has a contract at the London Stadium through 2024, the Hammers have the option to extend it by an additional 12 months.
According to the aforementioned source, Todd Boehly inquired about Declan only once, in June to be told that he was not for sale. The Irons could be more open to a deal ahead of the next campaign, though, especially if they miss out on European qualification this term.
And the English midfielder, who will turn 24 in winter, may believe that 2023 is the right time for him to take the next step in his career. The Blues are keen to refresh their midfield at the end of the season when Jorginho and Kante will both be out of the deal.
The London giants has not yet decided whether to offer new contracts to the pair, but both footballers are over 30 and are not long-term options in the centre of the park.
