Arsenal vs. Chelsea player ratings at halftime: Werner struggles and Mendy makes costly mistakes

At the halfway point of their preseason match against Arsenal, who had goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard, Chelsea is behind by two.

Emmanuel Mendy

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring at the Camping World Stadium shortly after Chelsea's number one goalkeeper, Bukayo Saka, made a good early stop to deny him. played a shoddy pass out before Martin Odegaard's goal. 5

Charles James

James, who was positioned on the right side of a back four, had little effect in the final third for the first 30 minutes. Later in the half, he did start to come to life and sent two excellent crosses into the Arsenal penalty area, one of which Kai Havertz touched, but the German was unable to score with a header. 6
Jorginho

Deployed at the base of a midfield three, Jorginho started the contest well but became overwhelmed as the opening period progressed. The Italian wasn't able to dictate Chelsea's build-up play and momentarily switched off prior to Odegaard firing home Arsenal's second. 6
Conor Gallagher

The academy graduate threw himself into a couple of early challenges on Saka but didn't get near the ball. Gallagher showed plenty of energy but lacked the quality shown in his earlier pre-season appearances. 5
Mason Mount
Started as a number eight in midfield, Mount was anonymous for much of the opening period. He did almost find the net late on with a shot across goal after being teed up by Sterling but saw his effort rebound off the post. 5

Raheem Sterling
Although given how those surrounding Sterling played, that is hardly a strong argument, Chelsea's best threat in the first half. The England international made a few good forays forward and did play Mount the ball for Chelsea's greatest attempt of the half. 6
Hasrtz, Kai

Havertz swung to the right throughout the majority of the first half but was unable to participate in the game. His greatest opportunity came from a James cross, but the German international was unable to capitalize. 5
Thomas Werner
The German's 45 minutes were really awful. He attempted to bring down a normal Trevoh Chalobah pass, but instead gave up possession twice in the Arsenal half in a cheap manner and knocked the ball out of play. appears to be totally  devoid of confidence.
