Almost Done: Chelsea set to offer new deal for £88,500 a-week midfield maestro

Chelsea are allegedly keen to tie academy graduate Mason Mount down to a fresh long-term contract.

This season, he has been a key player for the capital club, scoring 12 goals and assisting 15 times in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Despite the fact that Chelsea's future is no longer in doubt as a result of Roman Abramovich's sale, one source claims that the club is anxious that the 23-year-old might join either Manchester City or Liverpool in the near future.

Sanctions placed by the government on the Russian oligarch are still preventing the Londoners from negotiating fresh deals with first-team stars in spite of the successful takeover and according to a recent report from ESPN, they are hoping to sit down with Mason’s agents as soon as possible.

The main focus has recently been on defensive trio Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, who are all out of contract this summer, and it has already been confirmed that the former Roma and Stuttgart player will not be extending his Stamford Bridge agreement.

Meanwhile, the England international – who is believed to be pocketing around £70,000-a-week – will see his current contract expire in June 2024.
