Chelsea’s three reported January transfer targets

Marca claims Granovskaia is preparing moves for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt as potential replacements.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia plans to reinforce Thomas Tuchel’s squad with three players in the January transfer window, according to Marca.

Many would argue that it is unnecessarily risky for Chelsea to be active in the transfer market mid-season, given their incredible form at the moment.

Bringing in new players could actually affect the team chemistry they have built under Thomas Tuchel. After all, the west London outfit are three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

However, based on Marca’s claims, it seems that the Chelsea board has both already short and long-term transfer plans.

The obvious issues Chelsea might want to solve are Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger’s contract situation.

The centre-back pair are both in the final year of their contract at the club.

The report claims it is unlikely for Sevilla and Juventus to let go of their key players mid-season. However, Granovskaia could still pull the trigger in January amid uncertainty over Rudiger and Christensen’s future at the club.

The third player in Chelsea’s reported January shortlist is Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.
