Chelsea have emerged as surprise suitors for the signature of Beşiktaş goalkeeper Ersin Destanoğlu, according to Fotomac.
The report claims that Claude Makélélé, a technical mentor for young players at the Blues, travelled to Istanbul for a meeting with the Turkish side's representatives about the 20-year-old.
Fotomac adds that the European Champions have ‘increased contacts’ to sign Destanoğlu are ‘preparing’ to knock on the table with an offer of around €12 million (around £10m) for the Turkey international.
Our view: I feel sorry for Kepa because he showed promise when he first arrived and he has recently too but as a goalkeeper who could still have ten years left of his career he needs game time and I can understand why a replacement is being lined up.
However, the more I think about this potential deal the more it seems counterproductive. Game time is essential for goalkeepers and especially young 'keepers too, like 20-year-old Destanoğlu.
