Thomas Tuchel's Hakim Ziyech theory and why he has fallen out of favour after exciting pre-season

In the 27th minute of the UEFA Super Cup final, Hakim Ziyech polished off a nice move by sending the ball into the net from Kai Havertz's pass.

It was finally looking like Thomas Tuchel had unleashed Ajax's Moroccan wizard after a very exciting pre-season.

Ziyech was on his way to becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet. The 28-year-old struck a hat-trick against Peterborough, impressed against Arsenal and shone against Spurs on his way to a brace during pre-season and showed no signs of slowing down against Villareal.

Just 16 minutes after that goal against Unai Emery's team, however, all that momentum ground to halt as Ziyech suffered a shoulder injury in an innocuous-looking challenge.

The forward recovered more quickly than expected but has only earned four starts since, only one in the Premier League. He has not reached the heights of August, however, and while he looked determined in the early stages of Chelsea's Champions League match against Juventus, he produced little.

Tuchel believes that Ziyech may be suffering from his injury still, even if not physically.

The Blues boss said: "He fought his way into the team, he was in the team in the beginning of the season because of performance, because it was so obvious after the pre-season that he has to be on the pitch.
