Chelsea’s breathtaking win over Malmo overshadowed by injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner

Chelsea 4-0 Malmo: Lukaku and Werner’s early exits could spell a striker conundrum for Thomas Tuchel in the coming weeks.

Chelsea’s joy at an exhilarating attacking performance to dispatch Malmo 4-0 was quickly washed away by concern at the losses to injury of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

On a damp night at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel's  side looked to amend assumptions that his side are more efficient than breathtaking with Liverpool and Manchester City grabbing the headlines despite the blues sitting pretty at the top.

Chelsea ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Swedish outfit Malmo at Stamford Bridge this evening. Goals from Kai Havertz, Andreas Christensen and two penalties from Jorginho ensured that the result was never really in doubt, with the Blues now well placed to qualify alongside Juventus for the knockout rounds of the Champions League, which they current holders of.

However, it proved a more damaging night on the injuries front, with both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner limping off before half-time, and leaving Chelsea to play almost an hour without a recognised striker.

Tuchel issues update on key strike-pairing

Speaking after the game on the pair, both of whom headed straight down the tunnel upon being substituted in the first half, and it is bad news for the Chelsea faithful, as the German boss revealed:

“We have a twist of the ankle for Romelu and hamstring for Timo. They will be some games out, I guess. We only had Christian Pulisic, we miss everybody but we have to find excuses. We have no excuses.”
