Chelsea now interested in signing £10m attacker with more goals than Lukaku this season

Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Clermont Foot’s main man Mohamed Bayo.

This is according to Calciomercato, who claim the Blues have joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the hunt for Bayo’s signature.

The Papa New Guinea international has seemingly attracted the Premier League’s watchful eyes thanks to his scoring exploits in France.

He is already on five Ligue 1 goals this season, one more than Romelu Lukaku’s current tally for the Champions League holders.

Bayo also bagged 22 times in the previous campaign, a return that blasted Clermont from Ligue 2 into the first division for the first time in their history.

Understandably, the club will want to keep hold of the forward that ensured such a significant moment.

Unfortunately, when a player starts drawing attention from England and the other European heavy hitters, it’s hard to wave away the interest.

Plus, Bayo’s reported price tag is relatively cheap for an in-form striker in today’s modern market.

Chelsea concerns

However, perhaps the Seagulls’ need for a central attacker is strangely less than the Blues’ right now.

Thomas Tuchel is set to be without Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner for a few matches at least after the pair injured themselves against Malmo mid-week.

Kai Havertz looks likely to play through the middle during tomorrow’s league clash with Norwich City.

Yet, beyond the young German, Chelsea’s options up front are slightly limited.
