Chelsea are said to be showing an interest in hiring Sevilla’s Monchi as their search for a sporting director continues, according to reports.

As their search for a sporting director goes on, sources claim that Chelsea is expressing interest in recruiting Monchi from Sevilla.

The Blues have been eager to hire a sporting director ever since their new ownership took over.

However, despite their best efforts, they have been unable to accomplish so thus far and will keep looking for the appropriate appointment.

Michael Edwards, a former player for Liverpool, was contacted by Chelsea about the position, but he turned them down because he wants to take a vacation from sport.

The Blues appeared to be close to signing Christoph Freund from FC Salzburg in recent weeks as the two parties were engaged in advanced negotiations.

He will, though, stay on the Austrian side, and it has  also been reported that Chelsea’s appointment of a sporting director is not imminent.

There is high interest in the job and other candidates are being spoken to, with co-owner Todd Boehly taking up the role on an interim basis since his arrival.
