Three possible Thiago Silva replacements for Chelsea

To begin with, it's crucial to note that we're unlikely to see another centerback like Thiago Silva anytime soon. Silva will remain at Chelsea for at least another year, but it would be naive and irresponsible not to start looking for alternatives now. Silva will be 38 years old one month after the start of the following season. As a result, he will be the Premier League's oldest outfielder, and as good as the Brazilian veteran has been, CFC will have to replace him at some point. Given all he brings to the team, it is likely impossible to replace him; however, Chelsea can bring in some players who are excellent in their own right, and at the very least bring some of what Silva brings to the team.

We explored Robin Le Normand, Brendan Chardonnet, and Hiroki Ito as prospective Antonio Rudiger successors last month. This week, we'll be talking about potential replacements for former PSG captain Silva. Brazil's dependable legend is a smart player who reads the game extremely well. His passing ability is unrivaled among Premier League centerbacks, and his coolness in possession aids Chelsea in getting the ball out of the defense. Throughout his time at Chelsea, Silva has led the team in the number of passes and long balls. Most of these qualities, including leadership, would have to be embodied by a replacement for Thiago Silva. Thiago Silva isn't particularly quick, but he makes up for it with pinpoint placement. Here are a few:

Aguerd joined Rennes in August 2020. He has been with Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais or Rennes, for two seasons and has made the most appearances at centerback for the club since he joined (66). Aguerd’s reading of the game is clearly top-notch. He had a very good run with Rennes last season, helping them to a fourth-place finish while controlling the fourth-highest average possession in the league.
